Math 218 - Introduction to Probability and Mathematical Statistics

Math 218 is an introductory course in Probability and Mathematical Statistics
for students who have already completed either Math 155B or Math 170A.  It
assumes no prior background in either Probability or Statistics.  The first
half of the course deals with "classical" Probability theory and
Combinatorics.  The second half of the course is an introduction to
Mathematical Statistics.  Included is material on random variables,
estimation, and hypothesis testing.  Be aware that Math 218 is not a "data"
course--its purpose is to develop the mathematical foundations associated
with Statistics.  For anyone intending to pursue a career in science, the
material in Math 218 is essential.  Understanding how to analyze and
interpret data begins with understanding the mathematical and probabilistic
underpinnings of Statistics.
