Dietmar Bisch founded the East Coast Operator Algebras Symposium
(ECOAS), a new yearly conference series in operator
algebras and applications which will be held during the fall semester
at various venues along the generalized
east coast. The first meeting in this series took place at Vanderbilt
University on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2003.

school on Noncommutative Geometry and Applications in conjunction
with the 18th Annual Shanks Lecture
