Graduate Fellowships in
Noncommutative Geometry
Department of Mathematics
Several Graduate Fellowships in Noncommutative Geometry will be awarded
beginning fall 2006 to students pursuing a Ph.D. degree in mathematics with an
interest in noncommutative geometry.
Fellows
receive an 11-month stipend of $21,000, an allowance of $1,500 for research
related travel and a full tuition waiver.
The
fellowships are made possible through a Research Training Group grant from the
National Science Foundation to the research group in Noncommutative Geometry
and Operator Algebras in the Department of Mathematics at
The
research group in Noncommutative Geometry and Operator Algebras consists of
faculty members, postdocs, visitors and graduate
students with scientific interests in noncommutative geometry, the theory of subfactors, von Neumann algebras, K-theory of operator
algebras, operator theory, coarse geometry, index theory, analysis on
manifolds, controlled topology, stratified spaces, harmonic analysis, quantum
computing and quantum information theory. The group organizes seminars,
workshops and a yearly Spring Institute consisting of an international conference
and a school featuring several mini-courses taught by leading experts.
Fellows
will have supervised teaching responsibilities during one of their residency
years. In addition to taking a course of studies leading to a Ph.D., fellows
will participate in the seminars, workshops and Spring Institute organized by
the Noncommutative Geometry and Operator Algebras research group.
