Welcome
The research group in Noncommutative Geometry and Operator Algebras
at Vanderbilt University consists of faculty members, postdocs, visitors
and graduate students with scientific interests in noncommutative
geometry, the theory of subfactors, von Neumann algebras, K-theory
of operator algebras, operator theory, coarse geometry, index theory,
analysis on manifolds, controlled topology, stratified spaces, harmonic
analysis, quantum computing and quantum information theory. The group
organizes a yearly school and international conference on noncommutative
geometry and operator algebras. Each year a particular topic will be
emphasized and the school will feature several mini-courses
by leading experts.

December 2-3, 2005 Lecture Series by Jean Bellissard Professor Jean Bellissard from Georgia Tech will give a series of 3 lectures entitled ``The Quantum Hall Effect and its Mathematical Aspects'' at the Vanderbilt math department December 2 and 3, 2005. The lectures will be accessible to graduate students. We shall have one lecture on Friday, December 2 from 2:10pm to 3:30 pm and two more on Saturday, December 3, 11:00am-12:30pm and 2:30pm-4:00pm. Click here for more details. October 20, 2005 Postdoctoral positions and graduate student fellowships in NCGOA We are currently recruiting several non-tenure-track assistant professors in the areas of noncommutative geometry/topology and operator algebras (beginning fall 2006). Click on the link for the departmental job ad. In addition we are seeking one non-tenure-track assistant professors in the areas of noncommutative geometry/topology and operator algebras (beginning fall 2006) supported by our NSF RTG grant. This position is intended for recent Ph.D.'s who are U.S. citizens or residents with demonstrated research potential and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Moreover we are offering stipends for graduate students interested in noncommutative geometry and stipends for summer research experiences for undergraduate students (note: same eligibility criteria as for the assistant professor positions). Please click on the links below for information on If you require further information please send a message to the group's email address below. October 7-9, 2005 Lecture Series by Yan Soibelman Professor Yan Soibelman from Kansas State University will give a series of 6 lectures entitled ``Commutative and noncommutative geometry of mirror symmetry" at the Vanderbilt math department October 7, 8 and 9, 2005. The lectures will be accessible to graduate students. We shall have two lectures on Friday, October 7 from 3 to 5 pm, Saturday October 8, 10-12:30 am, and Sunday October 9, 10-12:30 am. Click here for more details. August 8, 2005 Sapir and Yu Invited Speakers at ICM 2006 Mark Sapir and Guoliang Yu have been invited to deliver a 45-minute lecture at the ICM in Madrid in August 2006.
