Special Issue on Constructive High-Dimensional Approximation
Anticipated Publication: 2009

Approximation theory of functions in a large number of variables respectively in high dimensions is currently emerging as a key topic at the intersection of several highly active areas of approximation theory, numerical analysis, scientific computing and computational science. An (incomplete!) list of areas touching on this is:

- numerical analysis of high-dimensional PDE's,
- manifold learning theory,
- data mining and learning theory,
- numerical analysis of stochastic PDE's,
- concentration of measure and related approximation results,
- high-dimensional numerical integration.

The managing editors of the journal Constructive Approximation (CA), Wolfgang Dahmen and Edward Saff, have decided to dedicate a special issue of CA to

Recent Developments in Constructive High-Dimensional Approximation

This special issue of CA will be edited by the guest editors:
Mauro Maggioni (mauro at math.duke.edu) (DUKE, USA),
Christoph Schwab (caspec at sam.math.ethz.ch) (ETH, Switzerland) and
Ian Sloan (i.sloan at unsw.edu.au) (UNSW,Australia).

The anticipated timetable of its publication is:
Submission of manuscripts: 31 July 2008
Completion of review process: December 1, 2008
Publication: 2009

Papers will undergo the usual review process of CA. Submission guidelines for regular, full-size CA papers apply. Please indicate "Special issue on high-dimensional approximation" at time of submission of your manuscript.

Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic form to one of the guest editors.
