Nanjing is one of the biggest cities in China, with a population of about 3,000,000. The city is known in China as the "Metropolis of Ten Dynasties". At the bottom of this page are more links to web pages about Nanjing.

Two other algebra conferences will be held in summer 1998, in Beijing and in Lanzhou. You may want to bookmark the web homepage for all three conferences.

Objectives

This conference will highlight significant recent developments in ordered algebraic structures and related areas. The aims of the conference are to bring together researchers working in these areas, and provide a forum for the participants to meet and jointly explore unsolved problems of common interest in an informal atmosphere. The following areas will be emphasized:
ordered groups and infinite permutation groups; other ordered algebraic structures (including semilattices, lattices, ordered sets, ordered semigroups, ordered rings and ordered modules etc.); and semigroups, groups, and universal algebra.
Researchers in neighboring areas whose interests fit the general aims of the conference are encouraged to participate.

Program

The scientific program of the conference will consist of plenary hour lectures, and special sessions of 30-minute contributed talks. Participants who wish to speak at the conference should submit an abstract of the talk (in general, 30 minutes) by May 1,1998. Selected papers presented in the conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings after being refereed. A CURRENT LIST OF PARTICIPANTS is available.

Abstracts

If you are giving a talk, you may submit your abstract on paper or over the internet. We actually would prefer that you submit your abstract over the internet, since this lets us skip the paper-to-electronic step of the processing. Ordinary text and most forms of TeX will work, though LaTeX is preferred. Atlas Mathematical Conference Abstracts is handling the abstracts for us. They have created a web page for submitting abstracts and also a web page for viewing abstracts that have already been submitted.

If you are submitting your abstract on paper, it must be The abstract must be submitted on one page of an A4 size sheet of paper. There should be a 5cm margin on the top and 3cm margin on the bottom, left and right so that the text is contained within a 15cm x 22cm area. It should contain title, author's name, affiliation, e-mail address, keywords, AMS Subject Codes and the abstract itself. Mail it to Dao-Rong Ton at the address given below.
